Withholding Agent

Definition

A Withholding Agent is a person or entity obligated under the Income Tax Act to withhold income tax when paying salaries, remuneration, interest, dividends, etc. All corporations are withholding agents. Individuals who pay salaries are also generally classified as such.

Examples

法人は設立と同時に源泉徴収義務者となります。

A corporation becomes a withholding agent (源泉徴収義務者) at the time of establishment.
