Qualified Invoice System
Definition
The Invoice System (適格請求書等保存方式), implemented in October 2023, is a new method for consumption tax input credit claims. For buyers to claim input tax credits (仕入税額控除), they must retain qualified invoices issued by registered qualified invoice issuers (適格請求書発行事業者). Businesses apply for registration with the tax office and receive a registration number (T + 13 digits) to display on invoices.
